Investing in young people means building the future of both the company and the local community. At GIDI Meccanica, this commitment takes shape through active collaborations with schools and the development of concrete pathways such as dual apprenticeships.
Recently, we welcomed Massimo and Gabriele into our company. After already completing a School-Work Training within our organization, they chose to continue their educational journey through a dual apprenticeship. We gladly accepted their request, placing them in different departments compared to their previous experience, with the aim of broadening their skills and providing them with a more comprehensive understanding of our processes and technologies.
Their presence in the company represents a concrete example of effective collaboration between schools and businesses, capable of fostering growth, guidance, and skills development.
To share their journey in a direct way, we collected their feedback in a short interview: in the video below, they share their impressions, the skills they acquired, and the value of this training experience.
The department experience, told by those who supported them
From the very first day, the apprentices were integrated through direct mentoring with senior operators, who became their point of reference within the department.
From the beginning, the students were involved in operational activities through hands-on training, learning to carry out tasks based on the needs that emerged during production cycles.
Their growth has been very evident: the initial lack of experience was quickly overcome, and day by day their confidence in performing tasks increased. The journey starts with the basics, such as reading technical drawings and quality control, and gradually progresses to the use of machinery and the management of equipment.
From both a human and organizational perspective, the experience has also been significant. Integrating a young person into a complex environment requires attention, but at the same time it represents a stimulus for the entire department. In this context, the role of the senior worker is essential, becoming a guide for the training and development of the apprentices.
The value of collaboration with schools
The relationship between the company and local schools is a well-established practice and an integral part of the way we operate.
Through School-Work trainings, dual apprenticeships, and meetings both within the company and at educational institutions, we work to bring students closer to our reality, introducing them to our products, technologies, and processes.
As highlighted by our HR Manager:
“This activity has become structured and continuous over time, with the aim not only of presenting the company and its identity, but also of concretely contributing to the guidance and education of young people. The experience of Massimo and Gabriele originated precisely in this context: after an initial introduction to the company, they chose to continue their path through a dual apprenticeship, demonstrating curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to challenge themselves. We now look forward to welcoming them back to continue their apprenticeship during the next school year.”
An opportunity to grow
Offering young people the opportunity to gain practical experience within a company means allowing them to truly engage with the world of work. Experiencing everyday business life, made up of challenges, responsibilities, and skills, is a fundamental step in developing awareness and direction.
At the same time, this collaboration also represents an opportunity for the company, which can get to know the students closely, enhance their potential, and contribute to the development of future professionals.
Looking ahead
The message we want to share with students is simple: be curious, seek information, and challenge yourselves. Even understanding what you do not enjoy is part of the journey, but the willingness to experiment and commit is essential.
We believe that experiences such as dual apprenticeships can represent a concrete bridge between school and work, offering young people the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.
