This year, GIDI has chosen to support Race UP, the Formula SAE team of the University of Padua, which for 20 years has brought together education, engineering, and innovation.
Race UP is a project involving approximately 120 students from the University of Padua, representing six different departments. Year after year, thanks to the commitment of its members and the support of its sponsors, the team competes in the Formula SAE championship.
The team is organized into three divisions. The first focuses on the design and development of a fully electric single-seater. The second works on a hybrid single-seater, equipped with an internal combustion engine supported by two electric motors. These two technical areas are supported by a Business & Marketing department, which manages the development of the Business Plan, Cost Analysis, and the project’s marketing activities, giving the team a comprehensive perspective that goes beyond engineering to include management and entrepreneurial skills.
A project of this scale, now spanning twenty years, represents much more than an extracurricular experience for the students involved. It is a true testing ground where theory and practice come together, and where every component of the car, from design to manufacturing, is developed through the students’ hands-on work.
A concrete link between university and industry
GIDI Meccanica has chosen to join the group of companies supporting Race UP, contributing to the development of the Hybrid single-seater by supplying several structural and connection components, including rear wing system mounts and front mounts, both on the wing side and on the single-seater side.
This decision stems from our desire to strengthen a concrete and mutually beneficial relationship between the academic and professional worlds. Supporting Race UP means investing in talent, innovation, and the growth of the next generation. It also means giving students the opportunity to tackle real-world challenges and develop technical and cross-functional skills that become essential once they enter the industrial sector.
The season’s milestones
In June, the official presentation of the new single-seaters took place. This was an important moment during which the Team publicly showcased the results of months of work, study, and engineering.
Between August and September, the Formula SAE competitions then took place: international events in which university teams from around the world compete not only in terms of on-track performance, but also in design, manufacturing, and their ability to present a fully developed business case.

Winning both Endurance and Efficiency also allowed the team to claim the Ferrari Trophy, an award presented by Ferrari to the winners of these two events at ATA – Formula Student Italy.
